Taquara Rashida Felix Crowned Miss U.S. Virgin Islands
April 26, 2016
VCU alum and former AFAM student Taquara Rashida Felix was recently crowned Miss U.S. Virgin Islands. She posted an update on her GoFundMe page this week thanking her supporters.
Felix, a first-generation U.S. citizen whose parents hail from Montserrat and Dominica, values her connection to her Caribbean heritage. She represented Estate Tutu in the Miss U.S. Virgin Islands pageant.
Though only 27, Felix has proven herself to be ambitious and committed to inclusivity. She recently started Spice Rack, a multicultural and multi-faith community forum intended to foster respectful communication. She has also started Toti Hair Care, a line of products for natural hair. She hopes to attend law school, and hopes her new role as Miss U.S. Virgin Islands will allow her to “inspire others to share their talents and to pursue their goals and aspirations while giving back to their communities.”
Felix has been documenting her journey on her blog.
