Biography

Dr. Hannah Ming is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of African American Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University under the mentorship of Dr. Mignonne C. Guy (Chair). Dr. Ming’s research interests primarily include 1) the psychosocial determinants of health disparities, 2) maternal and women’s health, and 3) health communication in digital and social media. She often examines these areas through community engaged research and mixed methods approaches. Dr. Ming also carries many applied public health experiences including previous placements in the Office of the State Health Commissioner in the Virginia Department of Health and the Sprout School at the YWCA Richmond. As a postdoctoral trainee, Dr. Ming aims to develop greater experience in scholarly activism to address structural and systemic
inequities in health research. Outside of research, you can find Dr. Ming hiking the trails of Virginia, baking pastries, watching Wonder Woman reruns, and exploring local art and theatre productions.
