Mercedes Ingram is a research assistant and coordinator in the department of African American Studies. As a key member of Health Equity Across the Life Course - Virginia Lab (HEAL-VA Lab), Mercedes assists in the implementation of tobacco-related health equity, tobacco regulatory science and cancer prevention research studies to ensure successful completion of study goals. Not only does she coordinate research activities, she is actively involved in data collection, cleaning, analyses and publication.  She prides herself on maintaining a broad network of professional relationships with research participants, investigators, study staff, and other collaborators to ensure successful research collaborations for the lab. Mercedes' plans to attend graduate school and pursue a doctorate to reach her long-term goal of becoming an epidemiologist and that conducts health equity research in systematically disadvantaged communities. During her free time, she enjoys volunteering at community events with other members of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and increasing her knowledge and skills as a researcher.
