Biography
Anise Johnson-Rasheed is a research coordinator in the Department of African American Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University under the mentorship and supervision of Dr. Mignonne C. Guy. As an integral member of the Health Equity Across the Lifespan in Virginia Lab (HEAL-VA), she aids in the successful completion and dissemination of grant/non-grant funded research with a primary focus on tobacco-related health equity, tobacco regulatory science, and cancer prevention.
Anise has a research and clinical background in the fields of health disparities, sexual and reproductive health, behavioral health, and oncology. Through these experiences, she has discerned her desire to shift the paradigm of how healthcare is conducted within minoritized communities. Anise plans to obtain a dual degree MD/MPH in the near future to improve the lives of marginalized populations and amplify voices that are often unheard.
In her free time, Anise enjoys practicing yoga, spending time with her two cats, and exploring new cultural cuisines.
