Academic Success Office: Helping AFAM students create pathways to excellence
October 21, 2014
Since fall 2014, the newly established Academic Success Office (ASO) in the Department of African American Studies has assisted dozens of AFAM students with their course planning, study abroad programs; and careers and graduate school.
Dr. Awendela Grantham serves as Director of ASO. “I provide resources and counseling to help students graduate from our program and achieve their professional goals. This includes assisting students with course scheduling, career planning and graduation. Every student is a priority,” states Dr. Grantham.
All African American Studies majors should meet with an ASO advisor at least once a semester to discuss their matriculation and to learn of opportunities that may fit their unique academic profile.
There also are ASO peer advisers on hand to provide information about research internships and student scholarships. Currently, Ms. Jada Moss, an African American Studies and Criminal Justice double major, serves as ASO peer advisor.
