Travis Harris is an Assistant Professor in the department of African American Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. Harris' former role as Associate Editor, numerous publications, cutting edge research and international conference presentations on Hip Hop has positioned him as one of the leading scholars in Hip Hop studies. Harris fights to overthrow White Supremacy within the centuries long and worldwide Black freedom struggle as the Director of Political Education for the International Black Freedom Alliance. He does not separate his scholarly work from his work in the freedom struggle, he sees both of them as working towards the goal of getting African and African diasporic peoples free. Harris is an ordained minister and is driven to ensure that those “from the bottom” are not forgotten, in academia or the freedom struggle.
